NAME
DSwitch version 1.04 Gamma - first public release
SYNOPSIS
A tool to select DCTV video and pass-thru modes.
FUNCTION
Click on the Install icon to copy DSwitch into your C:
directory.
'DSwitch <mode>' will run the program and invoke the
appropriate mode. If no parameters are given or an improper
selection is made, a help template will be shown. DSwitch
will return control after switching. DCTV *must* be connected
to the parallel port for the command to function correctly.
This can be used from Shell, incorporated into scripts or called
by other software that can issue AmigaDOS commands.
INPUTS
The options for DSwitch are as follows:
(only the first letter, case-insensitive, is required, all
modes are mutually exclusive)
Normal Restores normal behavior in the DCTV unit.
Video Makes DCTV always pass whatever is connected to
the 'Video Input' straight through to 'Video
Output'. This overrides the presence of a DCTV
picture on the current screen.
Rgbi Turns on an "unusual" DCTV mode, where it appears
DCTV encodes pseudo-RGBI Amiga video into a
composite output. Normal DCTV picture encoding is
still active. This also may be a different DCTV
mode. For experimental purposes only.
Bw With this option, all encoded DCTV pictures appear
in black and white. For experimental purposes
only.
Strobe After enabling this option, areas of DCTV pictures
with high chrominance values will appear to
"flash" at about 10 Hz. For experimental purposes
only.
RESULTS
No return codes are generated in any situation. The
shell regains control immediately after the switching takes
place.
WARNING
This product is in no way affiliated with Digital
Creations or Progressive Image Technology.
Just a reminder: DON'T disconnect or connect DCTV video
or parallel connections while the Amiga is on!
NOTES
This software was developed by experimentation with the
DCTV unit. I never disassembled one line of code or opened
the case, so my command sequences may only be approximations
of the appropriate protocol. Because of this, I cannot
guarantee that it will work to your expectations for your
exact application. However, I have used this command on my
own system and several friends' systems with no problem
whatsoever.
Personally, I use it to switch between the output of my
A520 (color encoder) and DCTV encoded pictures. That way I
can have both photographic-type pictures/anims and high-res
Amiga pictures in the same presentation. Just use your
favorite authoring program to execute the DSwitch command to
put DCTV in the appropriate mode. Also, it's handy for
checking your video input without always changing cables. I
suppose it could also be used to switch between DCTV and
LaserDisc or VCR during presentations.

BUGS
Not really a bug, but an "inconvenience that requires
planning", a 'DSwitch v' followed by a 'DSwitch v' will
produce a slight glitch on the DCTV video output.
Also, DSwitch has no way of knowing if DCTV is attached
to your computer, and will happily think it is working.
